- Pick a category, then the material you want to paint
- Adjust the brush size, strength and softness using the sliders
- "Paint to grid" fills whole grid squares.
- Blend materials by painting over an edge with a soft brush.

Grow 3D grass with the "grass" button on the toolbar: lawn, wild grass, wildflowers, wheat, clover, dry tufts, reeds or forest floor, in the colour, height and density you choose. See the grass guide for step by step clips.
Terrain Sculpting
You can draw hills and valleys by sculpting the terrain to a shape that you need. See the sculpt guide for step by step clips.

Buildings
Build walls, doors, windows and roofs with the Buildings tool. See the buildings guide for step by step clips.
- Walls: click Buildings in the bottom menu, click the ground for each corner, then double click to finish.
- Grid snapping: keep it on so corners land exactly on the grid.

- Roofs: open the Roofs tab and drag a rectangle over your walls.
- Undo: the Undo button in the Buildings panel, or Ctrl+Z, takes back the last change you made to a wall, door, window or roof. While you're still drawing a wall it steps back one corner at a time.
Trees & Bushes

- Planting: click Trees in the bottom menu, pick a tree, then click the ground. Each one grows a little differently.
- Bushes: open the Bushes tab in the Trees panel.
- Age and scale: set these before you click to change the next tree's shape and size.
- Undo: the Undo button in the Trees panel, or Ctrl+Z, takes back the last tree or bush.
Environment
The Environment panel sets your scene's sky, weather and wind. It has three tabs, and everything in them is saved with your scene.
- Sky: the time of day moves the sun, which sets the light and the direction of shadows; at night the moon lights the scene, as bright as its phase allows. Drag the sun on the dial to choose where it rises. Clouds run from a clear sky to overcast, drift with the wind and cast moving shadows; heavy cloud softens shadows. Mist hazes the scene. Backdrop shows either the sky or a photo behind your scene.
- Precipitation: choose rain, snow or hail, and how heavy it is. It falls with the wind and stays off anything under a roof or a tree. Rain darkens the ground it reaches and rings the water, and you can pick its colour. Snow lying covers open ground and roofs in snow, in any weather.
- Wind: how strong the wind is, which way it blows (drag the arrow), and how quickly it changes. The same wind sways the grass, ruffles the water and carries rain and snow.
Board
Board settings allow you to adjust general layout settings of the board such as adding a measurement grid, the board size and weather to show a frame or not.
