Water

Add ponds, rivers and seas with Water. Each tool digs, cuts or floods the ground as you drag, and the water follows any hills and hollows you sculpt.

  1. Click Water in the bottom toolbar.
  2. Pick Pond, River or Global water.
  3. Drag on the ground.

The Water panel

Opening the Water panel, switching between the Pond, River and Global water tabs, picking a style swatch, and dragging the Size, Softness and Depth sliders
Water has three tools, each with its own styles and brush.
  • Click Water, then a tab: Pond, River or Global water.
  • Style sets how new water of that kind looks. Pond has Clear, Lily and Murky; River has Mountain, Lowland and Muddy; Global water adds Tropical, Temperate, Stormy and Cold seas, with waves rolling in and surf on the shore, plus the three pond styles for a still lake.
  • Brush: Size (a river's is Width), Softness and Depth. [ and ] make the brush smaller and bigger.

Dig a pond

Dragging the Pond brush in a loop to dig a hollow that fills with still water, then starting a new stroke inside the pond to make it bigger
Drag to dig a hollow and fill it with still water.
  • Drag on the ground to dig a hollow and fill it with water.
  • Start a stroke inside a pond to add to it.

Draw a river

Dragging the River brush downhill across the ground to cut a winding channel that fills and flows in the direction it was drawn
Drag to cut a channel. It flows the way you draw it.
  • Drag to cut a channel that follows the ground. It flows the way you draw it.
  • Start a stroke in a river to extend it.

Flood the board with Global water

Pressing on the ground and dragging up to raise the global water level, flooding the board from its edges over a pond and a river in its way
Press and drag up or down to set the water level.
  • Press on the ground and drag up or down to set its level. It floods the board from its edges, up to that level, over any pond or river in the way, taking them over.
  • There's only ever one. Pressing again moves its level.
  • On a phone or tablet, a tap floods it at a default depth; set its level afterwards with the panel's slider.

Change water you've placed

Clicking Edit, then clicking a pond to open its menu, changing its style to Murky and dragging its level slider, then deleting it
In Edit mode, click any water to open its menu.
  • Click Edit, then click a pond, river or the global water to open its menu.
  • Change its style, and depending on its kind, a pond's or global water's level, or a river's flow speed or direction. Delete removes it.
  • Undo and Redo (Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z) are shared with Sculpt and Paint, so they take back whichever you did last.

Sculpting and wind reshape water

Using Lower to dig away the ground at a pond's edge so water spreads into the new hollow, then using Raise to build the ground back up through the water and dry it out
Sculpting a pond's or sea's edge lets water in, or dries it out.
  • Lowering the ground at a pond's or the sea's shore lets water spread into the new hollow. Raising ground back up through water dries it out there.
  • The scene's wind, in the Environment panel, roughens still water and carries its algae.

  • Sculpt, Paint and Water share one undo: Ctrl+Z steps back through all three in order.
